Hello babes! Today’s card is the THE HIEROPHANT from The Muse Tarot by Chris Anne.
The message: You are more capable than you think.
When I look at this card, I see a woman staring up at the impossible.
Sometimes writing feels like that. Impossible. That book idea you haven’t started. The chapter you need to revise. That plot point you haven’t yet untangled. That synopsis. They can all feel like too much to overcome. The work is SO MUCH, and you are so tired and unsure and have likely failed many many times already (I know I have, anyway).
You might think this feeling goes away once you’ve written and published your first book, but it doesn’t. I distinctly remember feeling this way many times as I drafted my third book, Last Call at the Local.
Every book is a new challenge. Every book demands to be written in its own way. Your job isn’t to know what to do. It’s to have the courage to figure it out.
The task before you may feel impossibly large. But you are more capable than you think.
But Sarah! I’ve never written a novel before. I’m not ready.
How do you know? Everyone who has written a book was once a person who hadn’t written a book.
What if I can’t do it?
You can. Anyone can. All it takes to be a writer is to sit down and…write. Why can’t you do that? You don’t have to do it quickly. You don’t even have to do it well. You just have to do it.
Maybe you’ll fail. I don’t know. It depends what you see as failure. In my mind, every failure is an opportunity to learn how to do better next time.
The project before you may seem impossible. It may seem daunting. It may seem too big.
But if you write a few words today, you’ll already be on your way.
XO, Sarah
